Grand Final
MBJFC v AJAX @ Centenary Park
Final Scores: MBJFC 5.6.36 def. AJAX 4.3.27
Goals: Dean 2, Jake 2, Sam 1
The boys turned up on a bright Sunday morning to go out and see if they could bring home the flag today. Our captains for our big grand final were Jake and Luke C.
Ajax started well and kicked a couple of goals, but as we have done all season, we just worked our way back during the quarter and kicked 2 goals for the quarter and also 3 behinds – 2 of which could have been goals with some more accurate kicking.
In the second quarter, we kicked 1.1 into the wind and kept AJAX scoreless which gave us a handy lead at half time. During the half time break, we asked the boys to continue to run and play on and to make sure that we were getting plenty of numbers around the contest.
In the 3rd quarter, we kicked 2.2 with the wind and AJAX kicked 1.1 which put us in a good position, but with AJAX kicking with the wind in the last quarter, we needed to play our best footy to keep them out as we knew that they would run home and kick long down the middle to try and use the wind to their advantage.
At ¾ time, it was like a huddle at a VFL match – it was 10 deep around the huddle and it was at that stage, I realised how many Mordi-Brae supporters had come down to watch our boys today. In the last quarter, they kicked a goal and then a few behinds and it was really a very hard fought out last 5 minutes of the game as our boys looked to push the ball wide and deny them opportunity.
The siren went and the boys had won by 9 points. They all ran over and jumped all over each other with literally hundreds of supporters around them – it was a really great thing to see and no doubt, something the boys will remember for a long time.
We went over for the presentation – the boys were handed the flag and the cup and it was just fantastic to be a part of a moment that the boys will remember for a long, long, long time.

Thanks to all the supporters who came along today to support out boys. I have never seen such a crowd at a junior footy match. We asked for a sea of Red and White – we got it. What a great club we have; we had kids and parents from all teams supporting us - from Under 9’s to Under 17’s - and this is what it is all about. You cannot create a culture like this without passion.....
I am proud and I am humbled by being part of this. Your boys have been a pleasure to coach and I thank every boy, every parent, every sister, brother, grandparent and friend who has been there this year,
All of you are my boys – I am so proud of what we have achieved this year and hopefully I will be back in a couple of years to coach you again.
Go Mordi!
