Rd 5 - We played at home against St Kilda and it was a beautiful day for football. We were also in need of an umpire and after a scout around, found an obliging helper. So serious was he about his job, we saw him getting a rub down from Matt the Physio of Back in Motion prior to the bounce. Thanks to Mitch Dickie for helping out and to Matt for getiing him in shape.
The boys stepped out onto the ground with heaps of enthusiasm ready to take it to St Kilda. The first quarter saw a couple of our boys quite surprised by the qaulity of their opposition opponent. Mia from St Kilda certainly held her own and she is commended for her skill and tenacity on ground. Where we have usually should ou best footy in the first half of our games, the third quarter was definitely our best this game. Although St Kilda got the jump on us in the 1st quarter, we took it to them in Q2 with only 3 points between the quarter score.
After half time our boys really showed what they have. We well and truly won the quarter and outscored our opponents. Three quarter time saw a spirited and passionate speech from the coach and although the boys gave it all in the last, St Kilda went home with the points. Final score - 10.5.65 to 4.4.28. Goals: Josh, Kurtiz, Sam & Billy.
Awards: Maro's - Tristan; Grill'd - Kurtiz; Canteen - Armani; Mcdonalds - Jay.
Rd 4 - Happy Mothers Day to all our mums and thanks for still getting the boys to the game. We played at Southern Road against St Bedes Mentone who are the top side. The boys got off to a good start, keeping the pressure on and it looked like it was going to be 1 point each at the break. However, St Bedes managed to sneak one goal in right on the siren. The next couple of quarters saw St Bedes get the edge and managed 6 more goals to our one. At the thrid quarter break, the coach emphasised it was how we played that counted and asked the boys to keep the pressure on. To their credit, in the last, they kept St Bedes goaless and proved what a formidible side they can be. Final score was 7.10.52 to our 1.3.9.
Goals - Dylan (1). Awards: Conor - Maros; Tristan - Grill'd; Kurtiz - McDonalds & JAck - Canteen.
Rd 3 was at home against Murrumbeena Gold. It was also Hayden's 50th game and the boys helped Hayden through the banner at the start of the game. Congratulations Hayden and we look forward to the next 50 games. (see Photo Gallery)
The boys got off to a good start even though we were kept scoreless for the 1st quarter. After the first quarter break, the coach's speech inspired the boys to play their best quarter of the game. By half time we were 1 goal down. Unfortunately, despite a gallant effort from our boys, Mumrrumbeena ran away with the 4 points - the fianl score being our 1.1.7 to 8.13.61.
Goals - Josh (1). Awards went to Hayden - Maro's Pizza; Ollie - Canteen; Ricco - Grill'd and Luke - McDonalds.
Although I did not get the game report up from Round 1, congratulations to Sam Barron who srarted his season celebrating his 50th game for Mordi Brae. Although we couldn't pull off the win for the occassion, the boys played a great game against Murrumbeena Maroon to help Sam with a memorable game. We look forward to the next 50 games Sam.
This week (Rd 2) the boys played at home against Hampton. Congratulations to to the following boys who, prior to the game, were announced as:
Captain: Josh Fisher
Vice Captain: Ricco Shirinov
Deputy V.C: Dylan O'Keeffe
The first quarter started well with Mordi having more scoring shots but Hampton won the quarter on the score board. The first quarter break saw the boys in the huddle getting good direction from the coach and an ask to step it up. The second quarter was our best quarter with boys responding to the coaches request. There were great passages of play with support from all angles as the boys kept Hampton scoreless for the quarter and had a 2.6 goal lead at the end of the first half.
Where the 2nd quarter was clearly the quarter of the game, the boys let Hampton knock on the door with 4 goals to our 1 goal in second half. However the boys managed to dig deep enough to hold on until the siren with the final score of 5.11.41 to Hamptons 6.0.36.
Goals went to Jared (2), Mitch (1)Josh (1) and Tomoya (1). Awards went to Lachlan - Maros, Conor - McDonalds, Ken - Canteen and Josh - Grill'd.
Many thanks to the parents for supplying photos of our games. Check these out in the Photo Gallery.
