Under 9 South (Burke)
Lightning Premiership!!!!!!!
Talk about save the best to last.
23 boys, hungry for a win, desperate to prove themselves.
3 games, six halves, 60 minutes.
What can I say? The boys were building all year and it came together on the day.
Leading into the final week of the season the boys' form had been impressive. We had been ticking the boxes, being competitive, completing rotations, attacking the ball, improving second efforts, playing four quarters, doing the 1% er's and playing as a team.
With our recent form anything was possible.
Being the last day of the season instructions were simple - don't come of the field wishing you had tried harder. The boys were asked to give it everything they had.
They didn't let us down.
The boys took a massive step forward, not only did they win two of the three round robin games, they won five of six halves of football and outscored their opposition over the course of the three games. A clean sweep of all three games was only missed by one straight kick in game 2.
A mighty effort by all 23 boys. This was the most even performance of the year. Everything the boys had been doing at training, everything we talked about on game days, all came together for a fantastic finish to the year.
The boys did not win through to the finals but they won some respect (not to mention some hearts) and can walk away from their year of football proud of what they have achieved as a team and proud of their own individual improvement.
I am sure none of us will ever forget the boys singing the song loud and proud, they are the mighty red and whites.
Captains for the day were Logan C. and Mitch P. Both boys have earned the honour with big contributions to the team over the season. Well done to both boys today.
